Sayaji Dwar at Dewas

Gate, Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad By No Comments

Sayaji Dwar, also known as H.H. Sayajirao Gaekwad Dwar, is situated at the heart of Dewas City. According to historical accounts, this distinguished gateway was inaugurated in 1941 by Maharaja Sir Ganga Singh Bahadur of Bikaner, under the patronage of Maharaja Gaekwad Sir Sayaji Rao Khanderao Gaekwad. The entrance was constructed during the reign of H.H. Maharaj Sadashivrao II (Khase Sahab) Puar of Dewas Junior.

The gate bears a resemblance to the Lehripura Gate of Baroda, featuring a central opening flanked by tower-like structures crowned with small cupolas. Additionally, it prominently displays busts of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III at the center of the gate on both sides. Recently, the city authorities undertook renovations on this historic structure.
