Opened on 8th march 1930, the Pratappura Sarovar was commissioned by the visionary ruler Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III. The Sarovar which is also called Pratapsinh Tank was commissioned to supply water to the Sayaji Sarovar/Ajwa Reservoir, in case of less rainfall in the Ajwa Basin area.

Also known as the Pratapsingh Tank, the reservoir was completed at the cost of Rs. 3,85,000. It is basically a huge catchment area spread in 400 acres (999 bigha) of land. It consists of 7 gates in total. 4 gates out of these connect it to the Sayaji Sarovar via canals, while the other 3 connect it to the Vishwamitri river. The rain water from the surrounding Halol & Pavagadh areas is stored in this catchment area. In case of emergency, where the Ajwa Reservoir is full, the excess water from the Pratappura Sarovar, water is sent off to Vishwamitri river.
