Opened on March 8, 1930, Pratappura Sarovar, also known as Pratapsinh Tank, was commissioned by the visionary ruler Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III. This reservoir was designed to supplement water supply to the Sayaji Sarovar/Ajwa Reservoir during periods of low rainfall in the Ajwa Basin area.
Constructed at a cost of Rs. 3,85,000, Pratapsingh Tank covers a vast catchment area spanning 400 acres (999 bigha). It features a total of 7 gates, with 4 connecting it to the Sayaji Sarovar through canals, and the remaining 3 linking it to the Vishwamitri river. Rainwater from the surrounding Halol and Pavagadh areas is collected in this reservoir.
In times of excess water when Ajwa Reservoir reaches capacity, Pratappura Sarovar serves as an emergency overflow, channeling water to the Vishwamitri river.
