Training School for Men

Opened in 1914, the Training School for Men, also known as Purush Adhyapan Mandir, was established under the initiative of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III. This institution was part of the Maharaja’s broader vision to enhance technical education for men across Baroda and its surrounding regions.

Architectural Design

Located on the now DEO Kacheri campus in the Karelibaug area of the city, the building exemplifies colonial architectural style. Its design features exposed brickwork, characteristic of the era’s buildings. The double-storeyed structure includes a prominent tower and arcaded corridors on both levels, adding to its architectural elegance.

The colonial charm is further accentuated by louvered windows, a pitched roof, and the extensive use of wood in its construction. The large halls and numerous windows were strategically designed to provide students with ample natural light and ventilation, creating an ideal environment for technical education.

Current Status

Although the Training School for Men remains in relatively good condition, it is currently underutilized. There is concern that continued lack of use could lead to its gradual disrepair.
