Situated near Kirti Stambh, this historic building, constructed in 1936, was established as a hostel to support underprivileged Maratha students. It was created in honor of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III, reflecting his enduring commitment to education and social welfare.
During the reign of Pratapsinhrao Gaekwad, the Baroda State Soldiers contributed significantly to the construction of this building, valued at Rs 50,000. It was dedicated to Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III as a tribute to his visionary leadership and support for education.
The building features a straightforward design with 3-5 rooms on the ground floor and over 12 rooms on the first floor. In addition to the hostel facilities, the building houses a “Pratap” sabhagruh, named after Pratapsinhrao Gaekwad. A bust of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III is prominently displayed at the entrance on the first floor, serving as a lasting reminder of his contributions.
Today, the building continues its legacy by providing affordable accommodation to students from all castes while also having a few NGO offices on the front, maintaining its role as a beacon of support and inclusivity.
