Located in the heart of Babajipura, also known as the Dandia Bazaar area, is the Shri Nilkantheshwar Mahadev Temple. Built nearly two centuries ago, this temple is considered one of the oldest in the area.
The temple was constructed by Babaji Apaji Fanse, the brother of Raoji Apaji Fanse, who was the Dewan (chief minister) of Baroda State. The area around the temple is named Babajipura in his honor.
The temple features three entrances. The main entrance leads to the shrine of Lord Ganesha, flanked by his companions Riddhi and Siddhi.
Another entrance takes you to the shrine of Lord Shiva. Here, a statue of Nandi, the sacred bull, stands at the entrance. The Shiva shrine houses a Shivlinga with four carved snakes, which is believed to have been discovered by Babaji Apaji. The temple walls are adorned with paintings of Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh (Shiva). In the temple’s compound, there is a large tree that is also worshipped.
The final entrance opens to the Shri Ram Temple, which combines traditional wooden wada architecture with temple-style design. Inside, you’ll find beautiful idols of Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmanji. The temple’s wooden carvings, glass lamps, and serene environment create a soulful and tranquil atmosphere.
