Shivji Ki Savari is a grand and revered chariot procession dedicated to Lord Shiva, organized by the Satyam Shivam Sundaram Samiti during the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri. This vibrant event features the procession of a beautifully adorned chariot carrying the idols of Lord Shiva and his divine family around the city of Baroda.
The Chariot and Its Idols
The centerpiece of the procession is a majestic chariot that displays the idols of Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, and their sons, Ganesha and Kartikeya. All are seated on a large Nandi, the sacred bull that serves as Lord Shiva’s vehicle. An idol of Narad Muni, a revered sage, is also part of the display. The chariot is housed in a large shed with glass walls located in the compound of the Motnath Mahadev Temple, near Vadsar – Bhayli road, ensuring it is both protected and visible to devotees.
The Procession Experience
During the procession, thousands of devotees join in, chanting the traditional hymn “Bum Bum Bhole” in reverence. The procession weaves through the city, bringing together the community in celebration. It culminates with a grand “aarti” (ritual of worship) held at Sursagar Talav (lake), where the divine family is honored and revered amidst a festive atmosphere.
