Located in the Dandia Bazar area of Baroda, the Premanand Sahitya Bhavan was established in November 1916. This initiative was inspired by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III, reflecting his dedication to fostering literary and cultural development. Originally known as the Gujarati Sahitya Sabha, the institution was renamed to Premanand Sahitya Bhavan in January 1944.

Founders and Purpose

The establishment of the Sabha was the collective effort of prominent figures including Manibhai Nabhubhai Trivedi, Manishankar Bhatt, Harshad Dhruv, Upendracharya, and Abbas Taiyabji. Their vision was to create a space dedicated to the promotion and celebration of Gujarati literature.

Activities and Functions

Premanand Sahitya Bhavan serves as a vibrant venue for various literary and cultural activities. It hosts essay competitions, honors authors, and organizes events to commemorate the birth and death anniversaries of significant literary figures. This space continues to play a crucial role in enriching the literary landscape of Baroda, maintaining its legacy as a center for literary engagement and appreciation.
