Cavalry Lines

Army, Building, Vadodara-Baroda By No Comments

In Baroda State, the Cavalry Lines were military quarters and facilities where cavalry units were housed and trained. These lines included stables, living accommodations, and parade grounds essential for the cavalry’s operations and upkeep.

Location and Scenic Beauty

Most of the Baroda State Cavalry lines and parade grounds, along with the bungalows of the Cavalry Lines, were located on the left side of Makarpura Road. On the right side of this road, one could find magnificent mango groves and betel leaf gardens, creating a picturesque and pleasing landscape.

Historical Route and Significant Locations

The Cavalry line began at a location now opposite LVP Gate 3, which is currently part of SRPF-1. This line extended towards the bungalows near Dhairyaprasad Palace, and continued along what is now the Manjalpur to Tarsali road which is now part of SRPF-9, reaching up to the Makarpura Palace. Some of the bungalows were also situated near Qutbuddin’s tomb, which might now be part of the ONGC premises.

This reflects the grandeur of Baroda State’s past and its well-planned military and residential infrastructure.
